1.3 Scope of Work

The scope of work of this project, entitled "Emissions Calculation Validation Program--Phase II," included the following:

• Define the program by: (1) selecting the "target compounds" to be quantified, (2) determining which crude oils and refined products to be included in the project, and (3) obtaining samples for vapor and liquid analysis;

• Analyze the samples, to determine liquid and vapor molecular weights, and speciate for the target compounds of interest;

• Perform equilibrium flash calculations using the Aspen/SP® process simulator, to obtain predictions of vapor composition based on the measured liquid composition data from the analytical task; and

• Prepare a report detailing the findings and providing appropriate conclusions and recommendations.

During the project definition phase, which was performed in consultation with members of the API Evaporative Loss Measurement Committee, the following set of target compounds were selected to be speciated in the liquid and vapor samples:

• Butane,

• n-Hexane,

• Benzene,

• Cyclohexane,

• Toluene,
