CODE FOR TESTING CEMENTS USED IN WELLS - First Edition
 N CODE 32

Annotation

Foreword

This code was prepared by the Special Subcommittee on Oil Well Cements of the Topical Committee on Materials, of the API Central Committee on Drilling and Production Practice.

In formulating this code the subcommittee considered information and technical data gathered from the research departments of both the petroleum industry and the cement industry, the American Society for Testing Materials and other organizations, and have selected and combined what they considered the most dependable cement testing methods and procedures now available for the benefit and guidance of both the consumer and the manufacturer of cements used in oil and gas wells.

This code is a specification governing test procedures, methods, and equipment which are used to evaluate and define those physical properties of cements of special importance to the oil and gas industry. As the cement testing methods and procedures followed by various concerns in the industry have been quite dissimilar for years, it is hoped that the methods and procedures provided herein will promote standardization and uniformity and eliminate discrepancies and misunderstandings relative to cement slurry behavior in the laboratory as well as in actual cementing operations.

Although the code establishes a basis for evaluating and defining certain physical properties of cements, it does not specify in what range of values the results shall fall.
