Reusable Water Vapour Resistant Bags for Engine Change Units, Propulsion Units, and Associated Equipment - Issue 3: 8/2016
N DEF STAN 81-101
Annotation
This standard specifies requirements for robust or semi-robust water vapour resistant (WVR) bags used in military packaging and storage applications. The bags are designed for use with a specific item of equipment for which a Services Packaging Instruction Sheet (SPIS) and a related drawing(s) are produced in accordance with Defence Standard 81-41, Part 4: Service Packaging Instruction Sheet (SPIS).
Three types are specified; Types 1 and 2 are available in a range of PVC sheet materials and considered robust. Type 3 bags are fabricated from metal foil laminate and considered semi-robust. All types are available coloured NATO Green or Camouflage Grey.
a) Type 1, Grades A, B, C, and D are intended primarily for the packaging of engine change units, propulsion units and associated equipment.
b) Type 2, Grades A, B, C, and D are intended for more general packaging applications, which are subjected to less demanding fluid resistance requirements.
c) Type 3, Grade E for use as Types 1and 2, but where the user considers that possibility of physical damage to the bag is significantly reduced.
NOTE 1: Bags manufactured from PVC are not compatible with Def Stan 01-5, OX-20 Hydraulic Fluid, Phosphate Ester Base ( aka DTD 900/4881D, (AFS – 1559B) Skydrol 500B).
NOTE 2: Bags manufactured from aluminium metal foil laminate are not as robust as PVC bags, but require reduced desiccant when specified, due to the lower WVTR, are lighter and more easily manipulated.
