Annotation
Dieser Teil der IEC 60958 legt das Format fur die Codierung von Ton fest, der fur den Toninhalt verwendet wird. Zusammen mit IEC 60958-1, IEC 60958-4-2, IEC 60958-4-4 legt dieser Teil eine Schnittstelle fur die serielle Digitalubertragung zweier Kanale periodisch abgetasteter und linear dargestellter Digitaltondaten von einem Sender zu einem Empfanger fest.
Es wird davon ausgegangen, dass die Tondaten bei einer der Abtastfrequenzen abgetastet wurden, die in AES5 anerkannt sind. Die Fahigkeit der Schnittstelle, andere Abtastraten anzuzeigen, bedeutet nicht, dass Gerate diese Raten unterstutzen sollten. Um Unklarheiten zu vermeiden, sollten die unterstutzten Abtastfrequenzen in den Angaben zu den Geraten festgelegt werden.
