Annotation

In this standard the components of drivelines and the most frequent types of vibration excitation are described and questions relating to vibration calculations and the measurement of torsional vibrations in drivelines are treated.

Translatory vibrating systems are in most cases constrained (clamped). On the other hand, rotationally vibrating systems such as a rotating shaft are in most cases unconstrained. For this reason this standard will be exclusively concerned with unconstrained systems capable of torsional vibration and having the following properties:

• Unconstrained torsional vibratory systems have the lowest natural frequency f00 = 0.

• The corresponding mode shape is a rigid body movement. For this reason, the transfer functions, both measured and calculated, have resonances for f = 0.

• The first natural frequency not equal to zero is designated as f01.

• Torsional vibratory systems have at least two degrees of freedom, and thus at least two natural frequencies f00 = 0 and f01 0.

Presentation of the effects of influence quantities on the vibratory behaviour of a driveline is given a lot of attention. This includes:

• non-linearities, especially the influence of backlash

• time-variant characteristics of system components which lead to parameter-excited vibrations

• friction-excited vibrations as a form of self-excited vibration of special relevance in drivelines

• regenerative vibrations
