Annotation

These Rules apply to all welding work performed in the course of new construction, conversion or repairs carried out on ships and their machinery installations, including steam boilers, pressure vessels and pipelines, for which an application for classification has been submitted to Germanischer Lloyd (GL) or which have been classified by GL.

Note:

The terms "welding", "welding work", “welding process” etc. used in these rules also cover all other thermal and/or mechanized joining processes such as brazing which, because they are deemed as “special processes” under the terms of the quality assurance standards, require pre-qualification which has to be carried out by qualified personnel and constantly monitored. These rules shall be applied in an analogous manner to these processes. Where no special provisions are made in the following paragraphs, the nature and scope of the quality assurance measures required will be specified by the Society on a case-bycase basis.

They also apply to all welding work on components, installations or implements for which the Society has issued rules, regulations or other technical directions in which reference is made to these Welding Rules.

These Welding Rules shall be applied in analogous manner where other rules, regulations or technical directions issued by the Society contain no special instructions with regard to welding work.
