Classification and quality criteria of biorefineries

Annotation
This standard is addressed primarily to plant operators, scientific or technical developers and project developers. This standard provides a standardised basis for the characterisation of biorefineries in terms of technical aspects and environmental, economic and social criteria. Operators of existing plants can use this characterisation for optimisation and strategic planning. Future developments in this field may derive appropriate guidelines for all sectors affected by aspects of sustainable development. Plans developed on this basis form a strong foundation for discussions and negotiations with lending institutions and planning authorities
The range of plants included in this standard is limited to systems which predominantly produce integrated material and energy products for industrial use on the basis of flexible technologies. Plants primarily producing food and animal feed are not examined in detail here
