Annotation
This maximum control approach goes well beyond the current, purely passive monitoring and key figure systems which are merely designed to inform, as they represent the current operational situation. This guideline aims to provide directions for the introduction of logistics control centres in companies, which can be performed incrementally. For example, basic functionalities, such as a mere visualization of the current system status, can be implemented as a first step. These functionalities can be gradually augmented with optional planning and control functions, which will ultimately add up to form a comprehensive system.
This concept enables logistics companies to efficiently realize even short-term delivery service objectives. It will be able to use available information from logistics computer systems as a basis for issuing automatic control decision suggestions. It will be possible to make increasing use of planning know-how and experience, (which is today still decentralized), and integrate it in a centralized system. On the basis of the current operating situation, this system can then find and evaluate possible alternative actions and determine the optimal guideline for action. The logistics control centre thus supports the proactive control of every logistics system.
