Annotation

 

This standard deals with the application of renewables- fuelled thermal energy systems in buildings, including the delivery and storage of the fuel, and the disposal of the combustion residues.

Systems which serve to generate heat in close proximity to the consumer, in both residential and non-residential buildings, are examined, the fuels being woody materials as defined in the 1st German Pollution Control Ordinance (1. BImSchV (Section 3, paragraphs 4, 5, 5a) and the maximum rated thermal output being limited to 500 kW.

The fuels are as follows:

• untreated lumps of wood including adhering bark, particularly in the form of split logs and wood chips, and twigs and cones

• compacted untreated wood in the form of wood briquettes to DIN EN ISO 17225-3 or in the form of wood pellets to DIN EN ISO 17225-2 and other wood briquettes or wood pellets of untreated wood in equivalent quality

Further biogenic solid fuels as mentioned in 1. BImSchV are not dealt with in this standard, as they have other requirements for the firing systems and their operation and maintenance than those presented here.

The biomass-fuelled heating boilers considered here release their heat to heating systems with circulating water, which are approved for a maximum operating temperature of 100 °C at a maximum operating gauge pressure of 6 bar. Compliance with these requirements is to be ensured by suitable safety systems (see also DIN EN 303-5).
