This standard compiles a list of the necessary measures for preventive maintenance of continuous conveyors. The machine lists and servicing and inspection schemes given here for continuous conveyors can be bundled together with the maintenance schemes for other machinery in a production unit to create an overall maintenance concept.

Whether an integrated plant maintenance concept will be introduced in a factory including the creation of service, inspection, and maintenance schemes, with order processing, a weak points analysis, etc. (see VDI 2895), is subject to decision on a case-by-case basis. In any case, it should be made sure that a reasonable proportion exists between the maintenance costs incurred and the plant usage.

The criteria listed in the sections below should be regarded as general instructions, the implementation of which may vary depending on the size of the factory, the connections between the plant parts and conveying equipment, the applicable safety regulations, and also the size of the maintenance operation.
