Annotation
The present description deals with the storage of bulk materials in bins and silos. Refer to VDI 3972 for the storage of bulk materials in stock yards.
This guideline is intended to allow potential users optimum planning by giving him an understanding of the problems inherent in the feeding and discharging of bins and silos and their extraction devices.
Storage is applied for medium to large quantities of bulk material. It serves
- for storage between the point of production and the point of further processing
- to provide buffer storage between different production departments working at differing times or with different flow rates
- for homogenisation of mass flows
- as a transition from continuous conveyors to discontinuous conveying systems, and vice versa
and for processes such as mixing, conditioning, maturing, drying, and cleaning.
