Annotation

This guideline is intended as an aid for potential users when designing and operating RFID applications in conjunction with industrial trucks.

To accomplish this, the guideline describes basic requirements for RFID components, industrial trucks, and interfaces and defines requirements for the use of RFID components on industrial trucks to read from and write to transponders on load carriers and storage locations used in intralogistic transport processes.

Emphasis in this guideline is placed on the use of counterbalanced forklifts and reach trucks, but the specifications can also be applied to other types of industrial trucks.

The guideline focuses on the use of passive UHF transponders, especially those conforming to ISO/ IEC 18 000-6, which marked the state of the art in technology at the time this guideline was written. The Electronic Product Code (EPC) is a globally unique sequence of letters and numbers used to uniquely label every product in the world so they can be identified at any time.

LF and HF systems as well as active transponders are not discussed.

Furthermore, only those load carriers that can be lifted on fork arms are examined.

The guideline does not examine connections between industrial trucks and central data processing systems ("DP systems") or the central DP systems themselves (e. g. ERP or enterprise resource planning).

The coexistence of existing or alternative RFID reading systems (e. g. gates) is not touched upon in this guideline either.
