This Standard specifies the measuring methods of the electrical and optical characteristics of laser diodes for recording and playback used as the optical source (excluding those accommodated in electronic circuit or those accommodated in optical element; hereafter referred to as "laser diodes").

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

IEC 60747-5-4 : 2006 Semiconductor devices—Discrete devices—Part 5-4 : Optoelectronic devices—Semiconductor lasers (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
