Annotation

This Network Rail standard applies to the installation and management of fixed stretcher bar assemblies, the management of lock stretcher bar assemblies, their associated fastenings and defects on flat bottom full depth switches and Bull Head switches, including plain leads, slip switches and switch diamonds in running lines. It applies to switches in both running and non-running lines.

Other S&C components not covered by this standard are managed in accordance with existing standards.

This standard mandates the use of the approved stretcher bar assembly fastenings for all new works, renewals and maintenance. Details of these fastenings are contained in Appendix C.

Purpose

This standard consolidates and rationalises the requirements of several standards, technical instructions and maintenance specifications in order to clarify the responsibilities associated with fixed stretcher bar assemblies.

The actions required following discovery of defects on fixed stretcher bar assemblies and lock stretcher bars have been split down by specific component type, condition and inspection regime. These actions are incorporated into NR/L3/TRK/1202/A, Actions Table.

This standard specifies an enhanced stretcher bar assembly with Hardlock nuts. Details of these fastenings are contained in Appendix C.

This standard introduces shims for use in Slips, Switch Diamonds and BR109 and BS110A rail sections. Details of these are found in Appendix H.

This standard includes requirements previously specified in SIN 104, which will be withdrawn on 30 June 2010.
