Эта Международная норма вкладывает графический язык проектирования для функционального описания поведения части последовательности системы управления. Этот язык проектирования называется GRAFCET1).
Эта норма содержит как необходимые символы и правила для графического изображения этого языка, так и их интерпретация.
Эта норма производилась для автоматизированных систем производства промышленного приложения. Тем не менее, никакая особенная область применения не исключена.
Дополнение описанной с GRAFCET спецификации не принадлежит к области применения этой нормы. Для этого различные дороги могут существовать, например, "язык SFC", специфицированный в Международную комиссию по электротехнике 61131-3, в которой ряд языков программирования вложены для программируемых управлений.
