Lifting inserts and lifting systems for precast concrete elements - Principles, design, applications - Production and placing on the market
 N VDI/BV-BS 6205 BLATT 2

Annotation

This series of guidelines provides regulations for the production, placing on the market, design and application of lifting inserts and lifting insert systems for the lifting and handling of precast concrete elements. Lifting insert systems consist of a lifting insert permanently anchored in the precast element and the corresponding lifting key that hooks temporarily on to the embedded lifting insert.

VDI/BV-BS 6205 Part 1 provides general rules with respect to the fields of application and the design format.

The present Part 2 covers exclusively aspects relevant to the producers of lifting inserts and lifting insert systems which are based on the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. It defines requirements and obligations for the producers of lifting inserts and lifting insert systems starting with development criteria and ending with the documentation of technical data in the lifting and handling instructions. Part 2 includes rules for the determination of the resistance and in addition testing and evaluation procedures for lifting inserts and lifting insert systems to ensure the design on a uniform safety level.

VDI/BV-BS 6205 Part 3 addresses structural engineers and employees of precast plants and includes recommendations and explanations for the design and use of lifting inserts and lifting insert systems.

Figure 2 gives the interaction between the individual parts of this series of guidelines. The principles and requirements of VDI/BV-BS 6205 Part 2 and Part 3 are supplementary to those of VDI/BV-BS 6205 Part 1.

This guideline gives instructions for the production of lifting inserts and lifting insert systems to make sure that they are designed and produced such that failure due to fatigue and wear is prevented if they are used appropriate. They shall bear all actions occurring during the lifting process in the precast plant and during installation of the precast element on the construction site and transfer into the precast element. Materials are to be chosen considering the intended environment with regard to corrosion, abrasion, impact load, fatigue and temperatures to be expected.
