Annotation
Purpose
This recommended practice pertains to the design, rating, and testing of marine drilling riser couplings. Its purpose is to serve as a reference for designers and those responsible for the selection of marine riser couplings. Capacity ratings are delineated to facilitate the grouping of coupling models according to their maximum stresses developed under spe- cific levels of loading; these capacity ratings enable grouping of coupling models independ- ent of manufacturer or method of makeup. This recommended practice relates directly to API RP ZQ, which pertains to the design, selection, and operation of the marine riser system as a whole.
Organization
This recommended practice is organized into distinct sections for easy reference. Section 2 contains a description of the function and typ- ical designs of marine riser couplings, along with the definitions of some marine riser terms related to riser couplings. Section 3 includes recommended design considerations and design criteria. Section 4 provides capac- ity ratings for grouping of marine coupling models, and Section 5 covers recommended design verification tests.
