The scope of this publication is limited to the general principles of handling aviation fuels at airports. Identification and color coding of fuel-handling equipment are covered in API Bulletin 1542. Throughout this publication, frequent reference is made to other publications that cover specific areas, such as codes and standards. In the interest of brevity and to avoid the necessity of frequent revision of this publication, referenced material from other publications is not repeated here.

This publication is intended for use by supervisory personnel; for that reason, its scope has been limited to general principles and guidelines. Detailed operating procedures for first-line personnel should be prepared by those who have direct responsibility for such operations.

Purpose

This publication covers the basic principles for the design of fuel-handling facilities and equipment. It is intended to be a useful reference for persons who are responsible for the planning and operation of aviation fuel-handling facilities and equipment at airports.
