Annotation
The Committee on Safety and Fire Protection of the American Petroleum Institute conducted a study of the safety problems associated with the storage and loading of heavy oil and asphalt at elevated temperatures. The information contained herein is presented as a guide to those engaged in this type of work.
This data sheet covers basic conclusions, as well as suggested safety precautions, derived from this study. The term "oil" as used in this guide pertains to asphalts, road oils, heavy fuel, residuum, and nonvolatile heavy crude oils. The term "asphalt" refers to both cutback and penetration grades unless otherwise defined.
The methods described herein may be used by anyone desiring to do so, but neither the American Petroleum Institute nor any of its members shall be held responsible or liable in any way either for loss or damage resulting therefrom, or for the violation of any federal, state, or municipal regulations with which they may conflict.
