Annotation

This publication describes precautions to be taken in the storage and handling of asphalt products and residua derived from crude petroleum when these materials are stored in heated tanks at refineries and bulk storage facilities and in tank vehicles. The products to which these precautions apply include the following:

a. Asphalt cement used for paving.

b. Road oils.

c. Slow-, medium-, and rapid-curing cutback asphalt.

d. Asphalt emulsions.

e. Asphalt compounded with special hydrocarbon diluents.

f. Filters and industrial asphalts, such as those used for roofing and waterproofing.

g. Blowing fluxes.

h. Crude-oil residua.

i. Crude oils of low volatility that may be stored at temperatures above the boiling point of water.
