INTRODUCTION
The Subcommittee on Pressure-Relieving Systems was organized in the post-world War II period to develop standards and recommended practices f9r the design, installation, and operation of pressure-relieving and depressuring systems. These standards were also intended to simplify procurement of safety-relief valves.
The subcommittee now has responsibility for the following standardization publications:
1. Recommended Practice 520, Desisn and Installation of Pressure-Relieving Systems in Reflnerles.
a. Part I--Design.
b. Part II--Installation.
2. Recommended Practice 521, Guide for Pressure-Relieving and Depressuring Systems.
3. Standard 526, Flanged Steel Safety Relief Valves.
4. Standard 527, Commercial Seat Tightness of Safety Relief Valves with Metal-to-Metal Seats
5. Standard 2000, Venting Atmospheric and Low-Pressure Storage Tanks, Nonrefrigerated and Refrigerated
The subcommittee utilized many sources of information in the development of these documents. These sources include the practices of the various user companies and studies carried out by individual researchers, user companies, manufacturers, and engineering organizations, as well as the incividual expertise of subcommittee members. Published papers and reports, empirical data from technical manuals, and certain unpublished letters and test data.constituted the basis for formulating the subcommittee's standards.
