Annotation

This standard deals with roofing work involving tiles, slate, profiled sheets, prefabricated metal elements, shingles and thatching (“discontinuous roofing work”) and sheet roofing work, including the provision of sealing, insulating and protective layers. It also applies to work involving the application of external wall claddings where these involve roofing materials

This standard does not cover

— roofing work involving the fitting and connection of metallic units welted on site (see DIN 18339),

— construction of roof decks from battens or sheathing, and the cladding of walls with timber shingles (see DIN 18334),

— sealing against ground moisture and water, irrespective of whether this exerts hydrostatic pressure, waterproofing of decks for green roofs (see DIN 18336),

— work on back-ventilated external vertical enclosures of buildings, where the enclosures are made of materials other than roofing materials (see DIN 18351),

— metalwork (see DIN 18360).

DIN 18299, clauses 1 to 5 shall also apply. In cases where the specifications of DIN 18299 contradict the present standard, DIN 18338 shall take precedence.
