Annotation
This standard lays down conventional values for emission factors for selected microorganisms (staphylococci and enterococci) from forcedventilated poultry houses for the keeping or rearing of broiler chickens, pullets and laying hens. In addition, Annex A proposes a guide value for turkey hen husbandry.
Emissions (gases, dusts and microorganisms) from livestock husbandry are to be taken into account from the point of view of environmental hygiene in the licensing procedure for poultry houses, in the case of complaints or during land-use planning. With the aid of dispersion modelling, it is possible to calculate bioaerosol concentrations in the ambient air in the surroundings of planned or existing facilities (see VDI 4251 Part 3). Knowledge is required here not only of the meteorological data, but also of the emission load and the facility’s emission conditions. For an accurate estimation of ambient impact, it is essential to define the representative emission load.
Conventional values for emission factors for ammonia, odour and fine dust are listed in standard VDI 3894 Part 1.
