Annotation

For industrial users of cushioning material the problem arises of finding a suitable cushioning solution for the specific application case. Coming to a decision is made more difficult by the lack of any formulation of relevant requirements describing the suitability of a cushioning material for the application case in question in the form of a requirements profile for that cushioning material. By formulating a generalised requirements profile this standard provides a supportive decision-making aid for selecting package cushioning. Due to the requirements and special aspects of the particular application case and also to the continuously evolving range of products on offer, this standard makes no claim to completeness or universality but should be understood as a supplementary planning aid for decision-making. As regards its target group, this standard is addressed in particular to:

• commercial enterprises in the packing sector whose packaged products require the use of package cushioning to prevent transportation damage within the context of goods distribution

• manufacturers of package cushioning needing to formulate development requirements, to carry out competition analysis and to define target groups

• packaging distributors and consultants who as part of the services and counselling provide support to companies in the packing sector in the selection of a cushioning solution appropriate to their application case

• carriers, parcel services providers and mail order companies
