Annotation

The purpose of this guideline is to provide information about the qualifications applicable to a Competent Person tasked with conducting inspections of cranes, hoisting gear and slinging equipment within the meaning of the Workplace Safety and Health Ordinance (BetrSichV).

This guideline does not cover the inspection of:

- lifts (for people or loads)

- machines for bringing persons to a particular elevation

- industrial trucks

- platform lifts

- excavators

These will be dealt with in later parts of the VDI 4068 series of guidelines.
