FOREWORD

The purpose of the ASTM Deposit Rating Manual is to provide a resource for the method, scales, definitions, and rating aids required for the evaluation of deposits on the applicable hardware.

It is the purpose of this manual to assist with the definition and evaluation of hardware. Significance of the observations defined by this manual must be interpreted by the individual laboratory. Reasonable comparability of results among laboratories should be accomplished from use of this manual.

The rating techniques included in this manual have been developed for research purposes only and are not to be construed as specifications or standards. ASTM has not investigated or determined whether any patents or other intellectual property rights are implicated by use of material contained in the Manuals, and makes no warranties or representations as to such. Prospective users of the Manual are responsible for protecting themselves against liability for infringement of patents or other intellectual property rights.
