Annotation
This Standard specifies an apparatus and the procedures for the disintegration of mechanical pulps that do not exhibit latency or mechanical pulps where latency has already been removed. This apparatus and procedure are required for preparation of the test portion in a number of other standards dealing with pulps.
In principle, this method is applicable to all kinds of mechanical pulps that do not exhibit latency, semi-chemical pulps and chemi-mechanical pulps, including recovered fibres from mechanical pulps. It is not suitable for mechanical pulps exhibiting latency.
This Standard should also be used to disintegrate all mechanical pulps to be measured for brightness.
NOTE 1 Brightness is not significantly altered by the presence of latency; however, hot disintegration of mechanical pulps can lead to significant loss of brightness .
NOTE 2 For the mechanical pulp exhibiting latency, the disintegration specified in ISO 5263-3 shall be used.
NOTE 3 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.
ISO 5263-2 : 2004 Pulps - Laboratory wet disintegration - Part 2 : Disintegration of mechanical pulps at 20 °C(MOD)
The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.
