Annotation

The purpose of this guideline is to define specifications and procedures for testing coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) with sensors relying on the principle of X-ray computed tomography (CT sensors) (see VDI/VDE 2630 Part 1.1 for a definition). The intention is to achieve comparability with the characteristics of coordinate measuring machines with tactile and with optical sensors. The characteristics described in this guideline serve for the specification of coordinate measuring machines with CT sensors and for a comparison between various measurement systems.

The guideline covers coordinate measuring machines using the sensor types described in Section 2. The CMMs can also contain additional systems such as rotational or swing axes. The functions and special features of CT sensor systems are explained.

In close reliance on DIN EN ISO 10360-2, the guideline defines the procedures for acceptance testing and for the monitoring of length measurement error and probing errors when using CT sensors. The DIN EN ISO 10360 series of standards in its current form is oriented very strongly towards tactile sensors. Therefore, this guideline specifies the additional aspects necessary when using CT sensors:

• measurement standards usable as alternatives to gauge blocks

• comparability of the characteristics when using alternative standards (e.g. with spherical boundary surfaces)
