Emission control - High-volume car body painting plants
N VDI 3455
Annotation
The subject of this standard are technologies and measures for environmental protection in high-volume vehicle body painting plants of class M1 (passenger cars) and class N1 (light commercial vehicles), if the latter are painted in plants that are also used for class M1 vehicles (EU Directive 70/156/EEC).
The main purpose of high-volume vehicle body painting plants is the application of the surface coating that is designed to meet both qualitative and aesthetic expectations of clients. The coating consists of several layers (Figure 1) that are applied in successive process steps in the painting plant.
Car body painting plants in the sense of this standard include the following process steps or plant segments:
- cleaning
- pre-treatment
- dip coating
- sealing, damping, and masking
- spray paint application
- cavity preservation
- paint reworking before assembly
as well as the corresponding supply and disposal equipment (such as paint supply, warehouses, chemico-physical wastewater plant, DI water plant).
Paint reworking in the assembly area (see VDI 3456) and preservation for transport are not discussed in this standard.
